Rehab Air Tenders - RAT

Rehab Air Tenders

When the LAFD needed to redesign the emergency air fill system used to deliver and fill air bottles at an incident the Rehab Air Tender was born. The LAFD combined the two Emergency Air Trucks and the three Rehab Utilities together so that the Department could expand it's air handling and rehab capabilities. The thinking was that a Firefighter could get a bottle of air and a bottle of water and rest during the exchange. The primary responsibility of the Rehab Air Tender is to provide air bottles at the scene on an emergency. Rest, rehab and food service is a secondary responsibility.

On large incidents the Rehab Air Tender becomes the base of operation for rehab and food services. Many times the Rehab Air Tender is delivered to scene and setup for the duration of the incident.

Depending upon the incident and projected duration the Support Service Volunteer Unit maybe called in to staff and operate the rehab section of the apparatus. Releasing the firefighters to return to their regular duties.
