Support Service

Volunteer Unit

Los Angeles Fire Department Support Service Volunteer Unit is a volunteer support and logistics group managed by the Los Angeles Fire Department. Its responsibilities are incident and incident base related. The primary responsibilities are incident rehab and hydration of emergency service workers. Based at Supply and Maintenance, the Unit has the capabilities of moving large quantities of hydration supplies to an incident if it extends into a Major Emergency.

 

The Support Service Volunteer members receive classes and hands-on training for the Support Utility, Rehab Air Tender, Emergency Light Utility, Fuel Tender, Forklift, and other support equipment that will assist in performing logistical duties during an emergency incident.

A limited number of positions are availalbe for men and women, including those aged 14 through 18, who are interested in the support side of emergency services.  These volunteers participate in Support Service Volunteer Unit training activities, meetings, and are on-duty to respond with unit members to the scene of an incident once they are certified.
